Amr Waked Speaks Out: Egyptian Star Praises Iranian Resistance and Honours Late Ayatollah Khamenei
The internationally acclaimed actor takes to social media to condemn US-Israeli aggression and celebrate Iran's retaliation following the assassination of its Supreme Leader.
Renowned Egyptian actor Amr Waked has publicly voiced his strong support for the Iranian resistance in the wake of recent US-Israeli military actions. In a series of tweets on Sunday, the 51-year-old star—celebrated for his roles in international productions like Syriana and House of Saddam—honoured the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, while sharply condemning those who supported or celebrated the attacks on the Islamic Republic.
Waked opened his statements by paying tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei, who was assassinated in an unprovoked attack on February 28. The actor described the late leader as a “great statesman” and a “martyr on the path of truth who destroyed falsehood.”
Framing the conflict as a historic turning point for the Muslim world, Waked praised Iran’s subsequent military retaliation. He stated that the late leader’s sacrifice inspired a powerful response, noting that it led Muslims to launch a “barrage of thunderous missiles toward the enemy, destroying all American bases in Arab countries.” He expressed profound pride in witnessing this moment, emphasising that Iran is a Muslim nation boldly standing up to the United States.
Addressing Iran’s adversaries directly, Waked connected the current war to the century-long struggle for Palestine. He declared that the “noble martyr” sacrificed his life to defeat colonial powers, allowing Muslims to finally prevail over those who have occupied Palestinian lands for more than a hundred years.
Concluding his message, Waked offered a prayer asking God to unite believers with the late leader, while wishing for Iran’s enemies to be grouped with figures like Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the late disgraced American financier Jeffrey Epstein. He ended his thread with a stark condemnation:
“May God curse anyone who attacked Iran and rejoiced over this attack.”
Waked’s outspoken remarks place him among a distinct group of prominent Arab public figures openly siding with Iran during the ongoing war. Long recognised as one of Egypt’s most successful international actors, Waked has built a reputation in recent years for his unapologetic political activism, frequently advocating for Palestinian rights and speaking out against Western intervention in the region.
