Go Around Them Like a Butterfly: The Heavenly Reward of Making Your Daughter Happy
When You Make Her Smile, Heaven Smiles Back
Imagine a moment in history: the beloved son of the Prophet of God (S) is taken captive. Now picture yourself being the one who steps in to rescue him—returning him to safety, reuniting him with the Prophet. What an unimaginable honor that would be! The reward for such an act? Undoubtedly immense. To bring relief and joy to the Prophet himself—what could be more pleasing to God?
Now, consider this: our beloved Prophet (S) gave us a simple yet powerful way to attain a reward of this magnitude. He taught us that making your daughter happy is equal in reward to freeing a captive—especially one as noble as the Prophet’s son.
Yes, something as simple as bringing joy to your daughter carries this heavenly weight. It is an act so beloved by God that it mirrors the greatest of heroic deeds. In the eyes of God and His Messenger, the happiness of your daughter is not a small matter—it is a door to Divine pleasure.
Think again: imagine people around you are struggling to meet their basic needs—food, clothing, shelter. Now imagine you step forward to fulfill those needs, giving from what you have to make their lives easier. Naturally, this would be a noble, generous act, worthy of great reward. God would be pleased with such compassion and generosity.
But the Prophet (S) has shown us yet another beautiful shortcut to attain this reward: spend on your daughter. Give her a gift. Help her with her needs. According to the Prophet, doing this carries the same reward as meeting the needs of the poor and destitute. In fact, spending on your daughter is one of the most rewarding forms of charity you can give in the path of God.
Now, fast forward to the Day of Judgment. Imagine standing in the Divine Court, anxious and ashamed. Your file of deeds is not as complete as you had hoped. The wait is long, and your heart is heavy. But then, something extraordinary happens. An act you had perhaps forgotten appears in your record. A simple gesture, a small act of love, changes everything. The decree comes: because you made your daughter happy, today We will make you happy. That happiness means salvation, entry into Paradise, and closeness to God.
This is not wishful thinking. This is a promise conveyed by Imam Ali al-Ridha (AS). He said:
“If a man brings joy to his daughter, his wife, his mother, or his sister—one of the women in his close family—God will certainly make him happy on the Day of Judgment.”
This is the path of mercy, compassion, and eternal reward that our Prophet and Imams have shown us. Make your daughter happy. Spend on her. Gift her joy. It may seem small in this world, but in the eyes of God, it is a mountain of light on the Day when we will need it most.
So go around her like a butterfly—delicate, loving, and gentle. Spread joy in her life, and in return, receive the eternal joy of your Hereafter.
