Kaouther Ben Hania to Bring Hind Rajab’s Story to the Screen
Film to Explore the Human Cost of Conflict Through Hind's Story
Oscar-nominated Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania is set to direct a powerful new film dramatising the tragic death of Hind Rajab, the five-year-old Palestinian girl whose story captured global attention. The project, currently untitled, is being produced in Tunisia with the backing of Film4 and a team of acclaimed producers, including Nadim Cheikhrouha (“Four Daughters”), Odessa Rae (“Navalny”), and James Wilson (“The Zone of Interest”).
Ben Hania, known for her films “Beauty and the Dogs” and the Oscar-nominated “The Man Who Sold His Skin,” brings a unique perspective to the project, aiming to highlight the human cost of the conflict in Gaza. The film will focus on the events of January 29, 2024, when Hind Rajab was left stranded in a car after her family was killed by Israeli shelling. The story will also explore the failed rescue attempt by paramedics, who were themselves killed before they could reach her.
The production has already drawn international attention, not only for its subject matter but also for the high-profile team behind it. The film is expected to shed light on the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza, using Hind’s story as a lens to examine the impact of war on children and families. Ben Hania’s involvement ensures that the film will be both artistically compelling and deeply empathetic, continuing her tradition of tackling urgent social issues through cinema.
By bringing Hind Rajab’s story to the big screen, Kaouther Ben Hania hopes to honour her memory and spark renewed conversations about justice, accountability, and the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
