The Expansion of the Chest
Midway through the month, we seek "Sharh as-Sadr" (the expansion of the chest). This is the feeling of spiritual openness that comes from true repentance (Inabat). It is the opposite of the "tightness" felt when one is stressed or distant from God.
Arabic:
اَللّـهُمَّ ارْزُقْني فيهِ طاعَةَ الْخاشِعينَ، وَاشْرَحْ فيهِ صَدْري بِاِنابَةِ الْمُخْبِتينَ، بِاَمانِكَ يا اَمانَ الْخائِفينَ.
Transliteration:
Allahummar-zuqni fihi ta'atal-khashi'in, washrah fihi sadri bi-inabatil-mukhbitin, bi-amanika ya Amanal-kha'ifin.
Translation:
O Allah, on this day, grant me the obedience of the humble, expand my chest through the repentance of the submissive, by Your security, O the shelter of the fearful.
