The Opening of the Gates
As we prepare for the final ten nights, we ask for the "Gates of the Heavens" to be flung open and the "Gates of the Fire" to be locked. It concludes with a plea for the strength to complete the recitation of the Quran.
Arabic:
اَللّـهُمَّ افْتَحْ لي فيهِ اَبْوابَ الْجِنانِ، وَاَغْلِقْ عَنّي فيهِ اَبْوابَ النّيرانِ، وَوَفِّقْني فيهِ لِتِلاوَةِ الْقُرْآنِ، يا مُنْزِلَ السَّكينَةِ فى قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنينَ.
Transliteration:
Allahummaftah li fihi abwabal-jinan, wa aghliq 'anni fihi abwaban-niran, wa waffiqni fihi litilawatil-Qur'an, ya Munzilas-sakinati fi qulubil-mu'minin.
Translation:
O Allah, on this day, open for me the doors of the heavens, and lock the doors of Hell from me, help me to recite the Qur'an, O the One who sends down tranquility into the hearts of believers.
